Six Month Supervision Cross-Training Immersion Course

New Fall 2023 Supervision Dates: Coming soon . . .

"My 6 month cross training supervision immersion was a great experience. I experienced a lot of commitment and respect from all the people involved. This atmosphere of trust helped a lot to go beyond self-surveillance and enter wonderment. I would say it’s a must-do if you want to enhance your NT practice – and it also opens to a very thorough clinical practice." - Supervision Participant November 2022-April 2023, Geneva Switzerland.

Supervision Cross-Training Immersion

"Supervision was so incredibly satisfying. The combination of skill building and transcript analysis created a professional learning atmosphere that was not only safe, but encouraging, empowering, and informative. I would like to think that learning from Stephen and Rock must have felt very similar to how they felt learning from Micheal White himself. The level of transparency and collaboration felt like being part of something highly engaged. I sincerely hope there will be further opportunities to continue building on the language and skills this Cross Training Supervision program developed."

- Supervision Participant November 2022 - April 2023. Vancouver, Canada.

NARRATIVE THERAPY INTERVIEWING PRACTICES

DAY ONE:

After a review of the VSNT.live follow up learning video assignment and readings + questions about the 5 Top Narrative Questions to Memorize, and the . . . VSNT resident Philosopher Todd May guides the group throughout the majority of the day (lucky you!)

Todd's intention is to focus on the crucial philosophical difference between 'creating’ as opposed to 'discovering' client stories within the narrative practice ideas that: people are multi-storied, and the practice of re-storying lives and relationships. He then leads discussions on the subjects of values, valuing, and the idea/practice of what it is to care. The complexity and purpose of these new discussions assist participants in making clear distinctions regarding a variety of interpretations and misunderstandings surrounding ideas central to narrative practice. As a backdrop to all his discussions he will bring forth the ideas of  the philosophers Deleuze, Foucault, and Merleau-Ponty.

DAY TWO:

Through a series of video demonstrations Stephen leads the group towards more robust understandings regarding the craft of double listening. He will discuss how the process of double listening in narrative therapy leads a therapist towards attending to/creating specific practice distinctions and differences in how we listen and what we listen for, in  therapeutic conversations. With this listening practice he intends to show the use of certain 'tricks' and questioning patterns a narrative therapist continually draws upon. The group will concentrate on interviewing skills related to the following narrative practices:

1) Double Listening,
2) Unique Outcome Moments,
3) Relational re-membering conversations,
4) Re-authoring conversations, and,
5) Note taking in the session.

ONE TO ONE TRANSCRIPT SUPERVISION

PLEASE NOTE: Individual and group Supervision of supervisees session transcripts are scheduled separately through your assigned VSNT Faculty supervisor.

PLEASE NOTE: Growing in confidence, knowledge, and agility – on January 30th 2023 supervisees submit the first of their two unaltered session transcripts. They begin meeting individually with their assigned VSNT Faculty supervisor beginning in February 2023.

PLEASE NOTE: All participant supervisees assigned to the same small group and Supervisor are offered ACCESS to watch members of their small group’s monthly individual transcript supervision session (Affording supervisees time to experience a variety of individual Narrative Therapy transcript supervision sessions per month)

PLEASE NOTE: Participants submit a total of two (minimum) 20-minute unaltered transcripts of a recent therapy session to their assigned supervisor. Your assigned VSNT Faculty supervisor will then take time before they meet with the supervisee to go thoroughly read through and make comments on your transcript – question by question.

PLEASE NOTE: One purpose of our VSNT supervision transcript exercise is to allow the supervisor time to thoroughly question the supervisee’s ecology of the receiving context that shaped and influenced the questions they are asking in the therapy session.

PLEASE NOTE: Another purpose of our VSNT supervision transcript exercise is designed to take a close-up look at the anatomy of the supervisee questions asked. Discussing each question’s purpose, politic, direction, intention, movement etc.

PLEASE NOTE: Another purpose of our VSNT supervision transcript exercise is to discuss if the supervisee’s ecology of the receiving context that shaped and influenced their questions is consistent with the questions they submitted in their transcript.

PLEASE NOTE: Within the VSNT framework of supervision the supervisor goes through each question in the transcript and provides the supervisee a list of alternative other questions they as therapists might consider asking in response to the supervisee’s clients response.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

"I loved all the information and getting it from such high quality professionals. It was amazing to be able to see them all in action. The live demonstrations were probably my favourite part, as well as all of the discussion."
